Revenue Bottleneck Scorecard

Every business has a bottleneck... and it's usually in one of six, key areas. Answer the questions below and get a scorecard assessment. This won't give you the specific constraint... but it will give you a clear place to look before your next hire, campaign, or strategy pivot.

[ how to use ]

Rate each statement on a scale of 1–5. 1 = strongly disagree, 3 = somewhat true, 5 = strongly agree. Answer based on what is actually true today — not what you are working toward. Higher scores mean the problem is more present.

[ 01 // LEAD FLOW ]

Our pipeline runs below goal, and vendors or internal efforts brought in to fix lead volume have either underdelivered, delivered poor-quality leads, or failed to hold over time.

[ 02 // ATTRIBUTION ]

We spend money on ads and agencies but cannot draw a clear line between that spend and actual revenue outcomes — we suspect waste but cannot identify where.

[ 03 // ATTRIBUTION ]

We rely on vendors or agencies to report their own performance, and we have discovered — or strongly suspect — that reported results do not reflect actual outcomes.

[ 04 // UNDERMONETIZED LIST ]

Our past and current customers are not being marketed to at the frequency or depth they are worth — the same sequences have been running for months or years without iteration.

[ 05 // UNDERMONETIZED LIST ]

We believe there is significant revenue sitting in our existing customer base that we are not currently capturing.

strongly disagreestrongly agree

[ 06 // OFFER ECONOMICS ]

Our profit margins are lower than expected for our revenue level, and the source of the erosion is not clearly visible to us.

strongly disagreestrongly agree

[ 07 // OFFER ECONOMICS ]

We cannot consistently acquire a new customer at a positive margin — our average order value is too low to support what we spend to get them.

strongly disagreestrongly agree

[ 08 // CLOSING ]

Leads are coming in but our conversion rate is below where it should be, and we have not clearly isolated whether the problem is lead quality, the sales process, or the offer itself.

strongly disagreestrongly agree

[ 09 // FOUNDER DEPENDENCE ]

Revenue is inconsistent month to month without a clear explanation — good months and bad months alternate in ways we cannot predict or control.

[ 10 // FOUNDER DEPENDENCE ]

When a key person left (or if they were to leave), our marketing operation would degrade immediately — the knowledge lives in people, not systems.

strongly disagreestrongly agree

[ 11 // FOUNDER DEPENDENCE ]

I (the owner) am still the primary person responsible for marketing and revenue decisions — the function does not run well without my direct involvement.
